Ray Angry is a pianist, composer, producer and arranger. Classically trained with roots in gospel, Ray’s resume includes names such as Jeff Beck, Wynton Marsalis, Mark Ronson, Q-Tip, Yolanda Adams, Joss Stone, Sting, Me’Shell Ndegéocello, Esperanza Spalding, Terri Lyne Carrington, a duo of Mick Jagger & Dave Stewart, Estelle, Richard Smallwood, Dionne Warwick, Dianne Reeves, Queen Latifah, D’Angelo, Lauryn Hill, Christina Aguilera and ongoing associates, The Roots. Ray is the CEO and Founder of Mister Goldfinger Music Group, which released the album, Ray Angry One. New projects include Ray's solo piano album, Ray Angry Three; a trio album with David Murray and Questlove entitled, Plumb, and an album of Ray’s weekly NYC live show, Producer Mondays. Ray’s film and television work includes composing music for Amy Schumer’s Life & Beth Seasons 1 & 2; Seasons 1-5 of Inside Amy Schumer; the award-winning short film Aisle 2; Expecting Amy; the documentary, Why Is We Americans?; the award nominated documentary, Descendant; the feature film, The Lockdown; the feature documentary, Out of Breath, and Amy Schumer’s new comedy special, Emergency Contact. Ray can be seen weekly on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon as a member of the house band, The Roots. Ray’s symphonic debut, Black Athena~Power recently premiered with the Lexington Symphony.


Ray’s forthcoming second album, Ray Angry Three (J.M.I./Mister Goldfinger Music) “is my most personal album thus far in my artistic journey. Playing solo piano has always been rewarding for me on so many levels. Because it’s such an enormous healing tool, I’ve used this album to reflect on past relationships. New album - Ray Angry, David Murray and Questlove




Ray, along with Rhiannon Giddens and Dirk Powell, composed the score for the critically acclaimed, award-winning documentary film, Descendant. The composers received multiple award nominations for the score.

Black Athena ~ Power is the new orchestral work by Ray that was recently commissioned and performed by the Lexington Symphony. Premiering to a sold-out house, Music Director, Jonathan McPhee describes the work as “a significant contribution to classical music.”


Ray describes the three-movement work (Age of Aries, Age of Aquarius, Age of Pisces) as a “journey in time to visit our collective ancestry and explore the trajectory of power throughout the ages.  It is also an acknowledgement of the divine feminine. It confronts the historic and resolves in the personal.”

The brainchild of Ray Angry, Producer Mondays challenges artists to trust their musical intuitions and dive into creating original music on the spot. It is an open forum for both legendary musicians and up-and-coming artists to share the stage and give birth to new works. An ode to the original jam sessions of the 1920 Harlem Renaissance, Producer Mondays provides a unique, safe space for artists to share their heart and music in an authentic and soul-fulfilling way that connects with the audience.


Producer Mondays is presented every Monday night at Nublu in New York City.
